**Job Title:** Residential Support Worker

**Accountable to:** Residential Manager

**Liaises with:** Residential Manager, Deputy Manager, Care Workers, Educational and multi-disciplinary teams across the organisation and external providers and partnership organizations.

**Job Summary:**
As a Residential Support Worker, you are tasked with providing day-to-day support for our Young People. This includes assisting in activities, education, and statutory meetings pertinent to their care experience. You will ensure the upkeep of our homes, manage cooking and cleaning responsibilities, and prioritize the safety and welfare of the residents at all times.

**1. Physical/Emotional/Social Support for Young People**
– Collaborate as part of a childcare team in the home, aiding in the planning and organization of living environments.
– Act as a positive role model for colleagues and residents, respecting individual racial, cultural, and religious needs.
– Develop trust-based relationships with young people to enhance their sense of security.
– Create a nurturing, supportive living environment.
– Encourage personal interests and appropriate social behaviours.
– Manage and respond to health emergencies, and maintain medication compliance.
– Foster a healthy lifestyle and positive social networks.
– Coordinate recreational group activities and holidays.
– Support educational and vocational growth.
– Prepare young people for transitions in or out of care.
– Implement intervention strategies as needed to ensure safety.

**2. Team Collaboration**
– Develop and review care plans in partnership with your team.
– Attend staff meetings to optimise care processes and policy adherence.
– Work with external agencies to support resident needs.
– Mentor new staff, promoting adherence to organisational standards.

**3. Administrative Duties**
– Handle routine administrative tasks and maintain detailed reports.
– Manage communications and document necessary information.
– Oversee financial responsibilities related to your duties.

– Foster responsibility among residents for their living spaces.
– Maintain cleanliness and order in communal and personal areas.
– Assist with meal preparation and household chores.

**Person Specification**

**Qualifications**

  1. Required: Proficiency in English and basic arithmetic.
  2. Drivers License
  3. Desirable: NVQ Level 3 in Caring for Children and Young People, First Aid, Food Hygiene, and Health & Safety Training.

**Experience**
– Required: Experience with youth (ages 12-17) displaying challenging behaviours, teamwork, and activity coordination.
– Desirable: Experience in care homes or health care settings, especially with individuals with ASC, mental health issues, or emotional and behavioural difficulties.

**Knowledge and Skills**
– Required: Understanding of the challenges faced by children and youth, effects of abuse, and the importance of respect and dignity; strong communication and interpersonal skills.
– Desirable: Knowledge of childcare legislation.

**Personal Style and Behaviour**
– Required: Discretion, patience, humour, commitment to working with youth, resilient communication skills, flexibility, and person-centered approach.
– Desirable: Ability to drive organisations vehicles.
